Monkey Rock Hike Details
In this section I will show a few photos and give you the basic run down of the Monkey Rock hike from my perspective, as well as my recommendations about the hike.
Where is the Monkey Rock hike?
The Monkey Rock hike is located 12 minutes drive south west of Denmark in the south west region of Western Australia. From the capital city of Perth it will take 4 hours and 50 minutes to get there.
It is easily accessible from the south west region and is best done when already in the area. Denmark is one of the most stunning locations in Western Australia so it is well worth a visit.
You can see out to Madfish bay, you can see the wind farm, you can see everything!
How much does it cost to do the Monkey Rock hike?
Zero dollars and zero cents.
This hike is short as well so no need to be buying food, just enjoy it.
Is there parking at the Monkey Rock hike?
There is parking at the Monkey Rock hike’s trail head.
Parking here is limited though, I estimate that about 5 cars could park here give or take. Fortunately though I didn’t see another person there while I was there so you shouldn’t have any troubles parking here.

How long is the Monkey Rock hike?
The hike is officially 1.6kms return so it is very short. It is an out and back style hike 800m each way.
How long does it take to complete the Monkey Rock hike?
The average time on the Monkey Rock hike is only 37 minutes thanks to its short length.
I spent over an hour there, flying the drone and taking photos but my moving time was only 25 minutes, it is really easy.
What is the elevation gain and altitude of Monkey Rock hike?
The elevation gain of the Monkey Rock hike is approximately 98m.
The altitude of the hike is not much at all, with the summit being ~143m above sea level as it starts about 50m ASL.
The hike is easy with its short length but it is hard on the way up as it’s just all an incline from the start to the end. There aren’t any flat spots so it can burn the hamstrings and glutes a little bit but it doesn’t last too long.

What is the weather like on the Monkey Rock hike?
The Monkey Rock hike trail is very pleasant to do in the September-November period when I did it, but with its location it can be done all year round, so long as that particular day’s forecast is good.
The start of the hike is all forest covered track and it is just the very peak that is the exposed granite. The granite to me seemed to offer lots of grip as it as rough and not smooth, but as always be careful in the wet and don’t get too close to the edge.
This hike can be done all year round.
What are the track conditions of the Monkey Rock hike?
Monkey Rock hike has brilliant track conditions. The hill up to the summit is an old 4WD track, it is very wide, solid ground, with the forest’s canopy above providing shade all the way to the peak.
There is a small wooden set of steps assisting you to get from the track onto the rocky summit section. The rocky section offered plenty of grip, but obviously be careful near the edges as there are no viewing platforms with handrails (as there shouldn’t be).

What do I need to do the Monkey Rock hike?
This hike can be done with the bare minimum. You could even do this without water on a cooler day.
But take a water bottle just in case, take a camera and enjoy.
Last one I swear!
